Starting now, police officers in Nolensville are bridging the gap with drivers on the autism spectrum through the “Blue Envelope Program.”
If somebody has a sensory issue with lights, sirens, or flashlights, being pulled over can be even more stressful so the blue envelope is a way for officers to approach the situation with more awareness and care. In the blue envelope is a copy of the driver’s license, insurance card, and registration, as well as phone numbers for any caretakers and certain triggers that officers should be aware of.
It just makes it an easier transaction and officers will be able to identify somebody who is being deviant with somebody who may just need an extra minute to process what’s going on.
